American flintlock “Kentucky” style rifle, signed L. Schillits on barrel. 42” barel, 57-1/4” overall. Barrel of medium to slightly heavy weight, approx. .45 caliber with 7-groove rifling. The rifle shows itsoriginal flintlock configuration with original hammer, frizzen, small parts. The hammer screw is a replacement, the metal surfaces show a good patina with some slight cleaning on the back area of the barrelapprox. 12” to the signature. The stock has been lightly refinished and shows some darkened areas to high small repairs. The wood is just slightly down against the metal, the refinishing professionally redone. Thepatchbox is nicely engraved and shows a release button near the toe plate. The lock is secured by one screw and shows a simple escutcheon with keyhole design.
