American combination percussion rifle/shotgun by Tryon & Son of Philadelphia, circa about 1850s-60s. The gun measures 45-1/2" overall, with 31-1/2" barrels; the left barrel is approximately .50 cal. rifle, right barrelabout 12 gauge smooth. The gun weighs approximately 9-1/2 lbs. The barrels and locks show a deep brown patina, good markings, light to moderate erosion and pinprick pitting; the markings are good, stocks show some losses at the front edge, some small old repairs, but generally good with just honest wear and use. The action is working, the bores appear fair to good. Just the type arm that headed west and wasvery useful to pioneers as it would put game on the table and be good for self defense.
