American Werewolf In London Rick Baker Signed Werewolf Head
American Werewolf In London Rick Baker Signed Werewolf Head - In 1981 John Landis wrote and directed the box office smash hit, "An American Werewolf In London", the story of two American collect students David Naughton (who quickly rose to fame after doing a song-and-dance in the famous "Be A Pepper" Dr. Pepper ad), and Griffin Dunne, on a tour of England, who are bitten by a werewolf (with obvious consequences). Although it had a great deal of humor, the transformation scenes and werewolf sequences were truly horrifying. Perhaps the main reason for the film's success was Special Effects Make-Up artist Rick Baker's ground-breaking mechanical effects. No CGI in those days, Baker had perfected the use of air and bladders and expanding latex to create horrifying on-set effects. The film and his genius work catapulted his career and he won an Oscar for his efforts. Michael Jackson (who immediately said this was one of his all time favorite films), hired both Landis and Baker two years later to do the same humor-horror for his epic "Thriller" video. This magnificent life-size dramatic snarling Werewolf head appears to have been made to test various werewolf looks for the production, since it has a "test" number and date inside in Rick Baker's handwriting along with his signature. Crafted of hard latex, and painstakingly detailed and painted, the snarling werewolf exposes astonishingly realistic teeth and tongue. It is also carefully covered in faux-fur. Inside the giant head is written "AWL (for "American Werewolf in London"), #3, 1981", and it is personally signed by Rick Baker himself! Approx 19"x14"x8".
