1920-Dated Typed Letter Signed “Thos. H. Ince”
THOMAS H. INCE (1882-1924). American Silent Film Director, Actor, Screenwriter and producer.
August 26, 1920-Dated Typed Letter Signed, “Thos. H. Ince,” one page, quarto, 7.25” x 10.5” on “The Studios of Thomas H. Ince” Letterhead, Very Fine. Written to the author H. Austin Adams, it reads in full:

“My dear Mr. Adams: I am fully alive to the fact that your story presents a present day problem of vital importance and I am more than ever convinced that it should be handled separately and not as an Associated Producer’s special. The subject matter is of national import and I feel that the Federal Authorities should stand behind me, as they have on previous occasions. I am now in communication with Washington with this aim in view, and I will let you know the results. It would be impossible for me to launch a nation-wide campaign of exploitation and publicity, relying solely on the machinery I use for pictures of entertainment value. No doubt, a way out will be found. Very sincerely, (Signed) Thos. H Ince”

Slight toning, thumb smudges at lower right corner, otherwise fine condition.
Thomas H. Ince produced more than 100 films and was a pioneering studio mogul. He built his own studios in Culver City, CA, which later became the legendary home of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He died under mysterious circumstances aboard William Randolph Hearst’s yacht.
