Rare Gold Rush location in Placer County. Dateline Carrollton, Placer Co., Cal., March 10, 1856. No. 167, issued for 5 shares to Luther Cutler. Signed by Palmer (secretary) and A.P. Catlin (?) (president). Pen cancelled. Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. Fold and some toning. 4.25' x 9.5" Carrolton was on the North Fork of the American River opposite Condemned Bar. After the introduction of water in 1855, it grew from 3 houses to a bustling town in three weeks! This stock is the company that brought that water. Notice how they spelled Carrollton. This is a nice tie between the city and the stock and the company. (Many of these stocks have other cities: Folsom and Mormon Bar for example. See other lots for these stocks.) (Prag Collection) State: California City: Carrollton Date: 1856 FHWAC#: 34771
