February 20, 1782, British Document Ordering the Arming of a Militia Unit, "Charlestown," South Carolina, Choice Fine. Manuscript Document Signed, "P. Faille, Major", on "Taylor" watermarked, fine-laid paper, 12.5" x 7.75". Addressed to "George Weary, Commissary to the Royale Artillery," Faille orders: "You are hereby directed... to issue out of His Majestys Stores... to Colonel Saml Campbell... for Service of the North Carolina Militia under his Command.... Musquets - British with Steele Hammers - 50, Bayonets with Scabbards - 50, Cartouch boxes with belts & Frogs - 50..." Endorsed at bottom by Col. Sam Campbell, acknowledging receipt of the arms. Some stains along folds and margins, minor soiling, but the writing is clear and legible. Fantastic content--rare Charleston, South Carolina war-date document!
