This is an excellent 19th Century Plains Native American Indian Warrior’s Coup Staff. The piece shows a large very long full-sized solid wood construction with bent wood end having a woven cotton or wool like “fur” fabric wrapping with yarn like ties holding long strips of old red stroud trade blanket strips having additional yarn tied red and white died turkey feathers having hide and old rubber or hose wrappings. The piece has a nice coloring from honest age and use and is in overall good condition with the end having a slight stressing and the tip being cut off. Provenance: From a very large Livingston, Montana private American Indian collection where the piece was called a “2nd in Command Coup Staff”. It was said that the second in command with stand by the Chief or lead Warrior holding this large coup staff at the center of the warfare or practice warfare. Measures overall 85 inches high (or 7 foot 1 inch high) by approximately 9 to 11 inches wide.
