American Painter Thomas Sully Autograph Letter Signed, “Thos Sully”, one page, 4.75” x7.75”, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, October 28, 1869, to Thomas Blackburne, n.p. The letter reads: “The Portrait I saw at 431 Christian St. I thought was signed by Stuart, and one of uncommon force and skill.” With original mailing envelope annotated by a 19th century autograph collector. The letter has some browning, very good condition. Thomas Sully (1783-1872) was one of early America's great portrait painters. He studied under Gilbert Stuart as a young man and no doubt is referring to his teacher's work in this letter.

Shipping: Flat Material, Small (view shipping information)
