American Madness (Columbia, 1932). Title Lobby Card and Lobby Card (11" X 14"). "Character is the only thing you can bank on." Frank Capra was the great populist director of the Depression Era, with such working-class-meets-the-rich-folks titles as "Lady For a Day," "It Happened One Night" and "Mr. Deeds Goes to Town." This look at the financial institutions of the day stars Walter Huston as Thomas Dickson, a bank president who is coming under pressure from the board of directors to stop making no-collateral loans. The pressure becomes greater when an inside-job robbery causes losses of $100,000 and a run on the bank from depositors. The film co-stars Pat O'Brien and Constance Cummings as employees loyal to Dickson and Kay Johnson as Dickson's unfaithful wife. This beautiful varnished finish title card and scene card have a tiny bit of edge wrinkling and corner dings. Wonderful material from early in Capra's career. Very Fine.
