American “Kentucky” rifle J. Bean on barrel, converted from flintlock to percussion, 64” overall, 47-1/4” barrel, approx. .40 caliber rifled, fancy eagle-topped and pierced patchbox with nicely striped stock. The gun remains in good original condition showing a brown patina finish, some pitting and erosion at the area of the breech, on rear of barrel, and on lock from a great deal of firing and use. The tang shows a reinforcement that extends into the comb, the stock is in good condition with a small repair at the toe where the original piece of wood was glued back, some opening around pinholes, some losses around lock, generally good overall with a light refinish and very light to no resanding. The rif shows double set triggers, one screw hole on the lock, and the forward ferrule is placed in an unusual position, almost to the end of the stock just behind the forend which may have been a trait of this maker. The forward 14” of the stock is an excellent restoration where the wood is matched well, but a seam is apparent. An attractive rifle with a great patchbox. From the Bernard Braverman collection. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
