Early American Made “Kentucky-Style” Flintlock Pistol

c. 1800-1830, American “Kentucky-Style” Flintlock Pistol, Choice Very Fine.

An impressive American, Kentucky-style, Flintlock Pistol.  It has a 8.75" .577 octagon-to-round iron barrel with remnants of British PROOF on the left side of breech.  French Silver trigger guard with hall marks on the inside of trigger bow, silver ram rod pipes, silver oval wrist escutcheon and silver half-moon inlays in curly maple stock.  Brass fore-end nose cap.  Lock is marked “ASHMORE” with remnant of “WARRENTED” below.  The stock is solid with age stress cracks (some mended).  In good working order. Note; it was common for American gun makers to re-use older, still serviceable working parts. Lock Maker; ASHMORE, Warrented; English gun maker who sold lock and other parts to the American colonies, and is said to have had offices in Maryland, Boston and Philadelphia.  We have seen many Kentucky rifles with “Ashmore” made locks.
