American Fullstock Kentucky Style Percussion Rifle, NVSN, .40 cal., 38'' octagonal barrel with long, low dovetailed blade front and buckhorn rear sights, unmarked as to maker; unmarked flat lockplate with a clean-out screw in percussion bolster; iron furniture including triggerguard having a long scrolled rear finger-rest, right-side patchbox opening to a trap in the butt for patches and spare parts, crescent buttplate with an exaggerated curve and long tangs, and three ferrules retaining the hardwood ramrod; varnished walnut fullstock with carved aprons on either side of lock, and a raised cheekpiece on left side. Double set triggers. Mfg'd mid-1800s. Condition is good to very good. Barrel shows a very dark patina with scattered light erosion, the other iron parts have an overall dark gunmetal tone with occasional peppering, the buttplate with heavy pitting. Stock is solid and mostly smooth with age and use marks, repaired cracks at wrist and triggerguard, filler at heel and toe of buttplate, and a later heavy coat of varnish. Hammer and bolster screws are likely replacements, action functions; bore is shiny with very pronounced rifling. Est.: $400-$600. (Antique)
