<td width="100%">
American Folk Art watercolor memorial painting that includes a town view, dated 1811. This antique folk art schoolgirl painting is a museum quality example of Federal era art taught in early New England academies. Painting's striking and rare sunburst border in vivid bright yellow is known also on a few clock glasses made in the Boston area. Another rare feature of this folk art painting is the distant townscape depicted with amazing miniature detail, including a weathervane on the church steeple, detailed slate roofs, window panes, and doorways. The tree leaves are heightened with pinprick work to simulate embroidery knots, which adds a three-dimensional texture to the lush, vivid greenery. Name on tomb is Nathan Brown, NH family history available to buyer. Center shows foxing from previous wood back, is neither fold nor crease. Painting 12" W x 10" H. Matted and framed 15.75" W x 13.5" H. Painting was long ago trimmed around the edges so that, in order to avoid the frame covering the border, it has been recently laid down (but not glued) on a black mat. 3 teeny paper bug holes are barely visible. Period gold leaf frame retains original leaf and old glass.
