This vintage American Flyer Water Tank comes in it's original box that is marked: American Flyer Trains No.596 Water Tank. Production of American Flyer trains first began in 1907, when William O. Coleman, the owner of the Edmonds-Metzel Hardware Company, teamed up with toy maker William Hafner, and began producing clockwork trains running on S gauge track. The venture proved successful, and the following year the company ceased producing hardware and devoted its efforts to producing trains full-time, changing its name to the American Flyer Manufacturing Company. In 1918, American Flyer began producing trains with electric motors. Coleman sold his company to the A.C. Gilbert Company in 1938, which moved production to its New Haven, Connecticut factory.
The tank has a decal that reads; American Flyer Mfd. by The A.C.Gilbert Co. New Haven Conn. U.S.A. and under the tank is a date stamp 49 Aug.1953. In very good plus condition it does have a paint flake on the black top and some paint flaking on the hinge connection of the water spout as I have shown in my pictures and has it's original operating button which is in excellent condition. An addition to any Vintage American Flyer Train Collection. <BR>SH & Ins. will be quoted after orders placed. If you have questions please contact me and thank you for looking.
