Signed White & Fly on the lock, revolutionary war era styling. Our consignor's notes indicated Virginia made and purchased from David Condor Inc. in early 1990's. Measures 69" overall with 53 1/2" bbl of approximately 60 plus cal smoothbore. Lazy "S" shaped side plate with plain brass military style mounts and sheet brass ramrod thimbles. Original Flintlock condition with correct parts. The stock has been restored from the rear ramrod thimble forward by splicing in new wood (well done by professional restorer). The remainder of the stock is in fair original condition with large crack on right side, small chips missing around the lock from firing at back top shoulder and other normal defects and wear from use. The metal shows a dark black to brown patina and good honey color brass patina. The top screw hole is worn through into butt with large opening where screw is missing. Note: We found a maker named Nicholas White in Fredrickstown, Maryland - of the correct era, but no listing for White and Fly in American Gunsmiths by Frank M. Sellers. An interesting American gun, circa 1750-1780, in our opinion.
NRA fair to good. Antique firearm.
