American Federal style inlaid mahogany secrétaire/ bookcase Circa 1850 a shaped crown with brass eagle and sphere finals; above a moulded frieze, glazed divided panel doors, and tambour slides; opening to fitted interiors of valanced pigeonholes and drawers, over a lower part with hinged folding writing surface, over three long graduated drawers; resting on tapered legs. H81² W35² D19² * Provenance: In the 1920¹s Estelle Winwood, the English actress acquired this secretary, Miss Winwood gave the secretary to her longtime friend Tallulah Bankhead when she moved to Hollywood, and Miss Bankhead bought her town house on 62nd Street in New York City. Miss Bankhead gave it to William Skipper in 1960, who in turn sold to an antiques dealer, from with the present owner purchased this secretary.
