Antique American Federal card table of best quality is attributed to Joseph Short of Newburyport, MS, ca. 1790. A virtually identical Federal card table with Joseph Short label is in Winterthur Museum, shown page 327, plate 294 in Charles Montgomery book "American Furniture of the Federal Period". This antique swingleg card table with ovolo shaped top stands on Hepplewhite square tapered legs. Card table is made of carefully selected crotch mahogany using single wide boards for top. Table inlaid with triple stringing around frame, inlaid plume at top of leg posts, stringing on top edges and legs, inlaid cuffs at bottom of legs. Of one family descent, this American antique card table remains in virtually pristine condition, even to its untouched original glue blocks and even original hinges. Family label remains on underside. 35Wx29Hx16-1/2D. With the great elegance of quiet simplicity, this is a supremely beautiful piece (these images do not do it justice). Similar examples also in Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Authenticity unequivocally guaranteed.
