This is a rare stock that features three key signatures: Wells, Fargo and Butterfield. No. 1117. Issued to John Butterfield of Utica for 37 shares on January 19, 1864. Butterfield has signed the reverse. Signed by Secretary, William Fargo, President Henry Wells, and Treasurer Alex Holland. Holland was John Butterfield's son-in-law. This stock was for 6000 shares of capital stock. March 19th, 1863. The vignettes featured on this stock are notably different than in earlier years. The vignette seems to be showcasing different modes of transporting goods. A locomotive, horse and wagon, and ship can all be seen in the main vignette. In the center, another vignette features a dog with words "Safety & Dispatch" below the animal in a seal. Measures 11.90"x 8.45."
