This vertical rectangular wall plaque is composed of two relief-molded ceramic tiles manufactured by the American Encaustic Tiling Company of Zanesville, Ohio. The piece originates from the Rubin Collection. The central composition depicts a stylized sailing vessel at sea with a prominent sunburst motif emblazoned on the main sail. The ship is shown cutting through stylized, crested waves in the foreground, while a slender tower or lighthouse stands against a cloudy sky in the background. The tiles are finished in a polychrome palette of matte and semi-matte glazes, featuring shades of sky blue, seafoam green, pale yellow, and muted terracotta. The two tiles are set into a dark-stained wooden frame. The reverse of each tile bears the molded manufacturer mark A.E.T. CO. within a rectangular reserve.
