American Empire furniture is a French inspired Neoclassical style of American furniture with its origins in the Empire style introduced during the First French Empire period under Napoleon’s rule. The American Empire style gained its greatest popularity in the U.S. after circa 1820. This classic and desirable style enjoyed a brief revival in the circa 1890’s with, particularly, chest of drawers and vanities. This piece is from the American Empire Furniture Revival and at the tail end of the Empire style, which continued in popularity in conservative regions outside the major metropolitan centers. The dresser features five drawers, each constructed with dovetail joints, and utilizing beautiful crystal or glass early original knobs. Placed atop the dresser is a simple rectangular gentleman’s mirror. Additionally, the dresser stands steadfast on ball and claw front feet and showing flowing side panels. Overall, the dresser shows good condition. The piece measures 37" wide, 66 1/2" tall, and 21" deep.
