American Curly & Stripped maple stocked Flintlock pistol with English style brass mounts and period associated parts made by early gunsmith or armorer. The pistol measures 16" overall with 9-1/4" barrel ofapprox. 69 caliber smooth bore. The lock plate is a Military type and shows a small cartouche behind the pan which is unreadable. The hammer and frizzen are somewhat crudely hand forged. The mounts are typicallyBritish of about the Revolutionary era. The stock is nicely molded and shows good quality and has some breaks and repairs in the fore end, otherwise good. A crude American type sheet brass inlay is nailed behind the tang. There is a British proof on the breech of the barrel. The side plate is the type used by the British about 1770. The metal surfaces show some pitting and the pistol has been heavily used even the frizzen wasrelined, small losses around the lock area. An interesting American Pistol that could have been used by a Revolutionary war officer. Recently found in Pennsylvania in an old collection. Est.;$1,750-$3,500.
