American Bowie knife by Rose, New York. Approx. 14-3/8” overall with a 9-3/4” clip blade with sharpened false edge. Blade shows extreme sharpening to edge and deep, dark untouched patina. Ricasso is stamped “Rose New York”. Hilt shows one piece waisted ebony with German silver pommel cap, ferrule, and double escutcheons with German silver pins. Iron crossguard with ball finials. Blade tang is peened at the end of the pommel cap. Both sides of ebony hilt have cracks. The crossguard ferrule and pommel cap are loose from natural shrinkage to the ebony hilt and use. Overall in fair and untouched condition. Circa approx. late 1830’s to early 1840’s. Hugh Hayes Collection. Est: $4,000 - $8,000
