<B>An American Silver Presentation Bowl</B></I><BR><BR>Dominick & Haff, New York, New York<BR>1900<BR>Silver<BR>Marks: <I>925</B></I> (within oval), (circle), <I>1900</B></I> (within diamond), <I>STERLING, 1566, BULLARD BROS</B></I><BR>3.63 inches high x 11 inches diameter<BR>19.23 Troy ounces<BR><BR>Retailed by Bullard Brothers, with pierced cast floral decoration to the shaped rim. Inscribed on the bottom, <I>From The Officers Of The 24th Infantry, Aug 19, 1903</B></I>.<BR><BR>The 24th Infantry Regiment (one of the Buffalo Soldier regiments) was organized in November 1869 from the 38th and 41st Infantry Regiments. All the enlisted soldiers were black, either veterans of the U.S. Colored Troops or freed slaves. From its activation to 1898 the 24th Infantry served throughout the Western United States. Its missions included guarding posts, battling Indians, and protecting roadways against bandits.
