Amelia Earhart Leather Hat Amelia Earhart's Leather Flying Cap
Amelia Earhart's Leather Flying Cap Not many photographs exist of Amelia wearing her flying headgear, however, the ones that do often show her in a cap like this one or a tighter smoother version in white. This leather version is similar to the types worn by pilots in WWII, however, this one features snaps on the chinstrap whereas most of the WWII versions use a buckle. The leather is light and supple and the inside of the cap is lined with wool. Below the seam where the wool meets the leather is Amelia's stamp. The same stamp found in her jacket which is also up for sale in this auction. The stamp is slightly faded from age but her name is still clearly visible. One can only imagine the places this hat has been. It was given to Mariette Lydis, a friend of Amelia's on one of her trips overseas. Lydis was a famous artist, and for the rest of her life cherished the items Amelia had given her. This helmet was included in her estate and will when she died. Amelia is a fascinating figure for many Americans, and items which belonged to her or related to her career are especially desirable and popular. This helmet, purported to have been worn by Earhart in flight should bring quite a stir in the bidder market. Amelia often said, "Better to do a good deed near at home than go far away to burn incense." Do yourself a favor and bid on this auction, instead of looking for lesser items elsewhere!

Important notic
