This came from the estate of the Philadelphia daguerreotypist David C. Collins, originally in partnership with M. A. Root. He seems also to have had some daguerreian connections in New England. The child is presumed to be his son or at least part of his close family. He is shown dressed for the cold, with his uniformed young companion at his side. The photographer has arranged for the older boy to place his hand on the wicker chair arm just below the child's. The child's other hand is covered by his cape. 1/4 plate ambrotype on violet glass. No case.
