<B>Ambrose Burnside Photograph Signed</B></I> "<I>A. E. Burnside Brig Genl</B></I>". Early war Carte de Visite with J. Gurney & Son, New York backmark. Given Burnisde's rank in the inscription, this image was made before Burnside's March 18, 1862 promotion to major general. He is shown in dress uniform and is decidedly slimmer here than in his later wartime photographs.
