French composer of light operas (1811–1896). Four ALSs in French, totaling nine pages, all with musical content: one rating a series of songs by treble and bass clef, May 7, 1847, in part, “I followed with great attention your students’ lesson, and here is my wager…Based on the above comparison, No. 11 will thus be first. No 6 second, and No. 13 third…No. 9 would be out of the race”; one to the president of the Society of Authors and Dramatic Composers, May 16, 1866, regretting that he cannot attend an event as he must act as a judge for the Prix de Rome; one dated October 20, 1875, in part: “come to the Conservatory…your program seems extremely interesting to me”; and one undated, reserving two tickets for his Le songe d’une nuit d’ete [Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream], to be picked up at the Opera Comique on the day of the performance. In overall fine condition.
