Excavated in the western Yellow River region of Gansu province, each bead or decorative shell (aka: amulets) is well-crafted and nicely polished. My first photo does not show the upper portion of the necklace, where some really nice large beads are nicely curved....but you can see some of them in the closeup photo. The dry burials in sandy mounds there have kept the hard shell from corrosion, and the shells have perforations from which beads or feathers would have been suspended for enhanced spiritual effectiveness during their time of use....about 6,000 to 7,000 years ago. 38" long, and acquired from a local archaeologist friend who lived for several decades in that "Ordos" region of the upper Yellow River where these were found. It is the most outrageous example I have seen. Can you top it?
