Alvin White Engraved and Gold Inlaid Colt Single Action Army Revolver, as made for the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage as their Gala 1996 Auction Fundraiser Firearm. Serial no. 99580SA and additionally serialized AMWH1996, .45 cal., 7-1/2'' barrel, heavily inlaid and embellished, blue and case hardened finish, buffalo head carved ivory grips, with all original Colt factory markings inlaid in gold. Left side of barrel marked ''Guns of the Wild West Autry Museum Gala Revolver'', additionally featuring a silver inlaid flintlock rifle and a gold inlaid percussion side-by-side shotgun; right side shows a gold-applied Marlin Model 1881 Lever Action Carbine, as well as a Sharps Sporting rifle, surrounded by two crossed S&W No. 1-1/2 revolvers. Barrel is extensively engraved in a tight floral 19th Century New York style, as is frame and cylinder. Unique six-shot cylinder with four flutes, two of which have been decorated, one with tooled buscadero rig, the other with Winchester type rider, the symbol of the museum. Left side of frame with gold-applied Rampant Colt and engraved Single Action revolver; recoil shield with gold-applied image of Wild Bill Hickock over a Colt 1851 Navy revolver. Loading gate with gold Remington over/under derringer, with lower portion of frame showing a Stevens-Conlin single shot target pistol. Backstrap is inlaid with ''Sam'l Colt'' and ''O.F. Winchester'' facsimile signatures in gold. Buttstrap is neatly engraved with the center panel inlaid in gold ''W.F. & Co.''. Hammer, trigger, cylinder arbor and ejector rod are all gold plated. All screws are fine niter-blue. Left panel of ivory grip with gold shield embossed ''Jack'', much in the style of 1880s period presentation revolvers. In 1980s period Colt Factory blue-lined walnut case with key. The quality of workmanship truly lends credence to the statement that Alvin A. White was the most distinguished American arms engraver of the 20th Century. It is interesting to note that the late Mr. White's work is on display in the Colt Gallery, the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, and he has done presentation work for the Colt Firearms Co., and for at least five Presidents of the United States. His work is extensively featured in any publication dealing with American firearms engraving. Condition is mint. A fine example of a modern high-art American firearm. Est.: $25,000-$35,000. (Modern)
