Our Assessment: The M1 Carbine was developed and produced after WWII started. Over 6 million were made by a number of U.S. companies to assist with the all-out war effort. The M1 Carbine was widely issued to U.S. Military Forces which numbered over 16 million during WWII. The M1 Carbine contributed greatly to U.S. efforts during WWII. After the Korean War a number of commercial companies developed their own M1 Carbines for sales to the civilian market. Initially, surplus USGI parts were used as much as possible. As those supplies dried up companies produced their own parts. Alpine Industries was one of the companies that produced Post WWII M1 Carbines. Alpine Industries was incorporated in California in March 1959. On May 5, 1960 Alpine Sales and National Ordnance were incorporated. National Ordnance produced M1 Carbines and sold a percentage of their M1 Carbines carbines to Alpine Sales who resold them at a profit. Operationally, Alpine was the sales division of National Ordnance. This M1 Carbine was produced with an Alpine receiver, barrel, and stock. Most of the remaining parts are USGI parts including the 2 magazines.
