Collection of items related to Alphonse Penaude (1850–1880), a pioneer of aviation design and engineering who originated the use of twisted rubber to power model aircraft, including: two original vintage 5 x 6.25 photographs, circa 1871, depicting the Penaud Ornithopter, a rubber band–powered model aircraft; and a French patent of the Penaud & Gauchot amphibious monoplane, February 18, 1876, including four folded blueprint plates. In overall very good to fine condition. Provenance: Thierry Tissandier, the son of Paul Tissandier (first pupil of the Wright Brothers), and grandson of Gaston Tissandier (founder and publisher of the scientific magazine 'La Nature').
