This is an Allen & Thurber bar-hammer pepperbox revolver; patented in 1845. The revolving barrel is marked Allen & Thurber Worcester, .32 cal. percussion six shot with a 3 in. barrel. The Allen & Thurber partnership was short-lived placing this gun made between 1854-1855. The frame, backstrap and shield are engraved and lightly patinated. The grips are of two piece walnut with original finish. Still in working order. Ethan Allen was well aware of Sam. Colt's patents as well as his failures. Witnessed here with a flame-shield to eliminate chain-fire between cylinders as Sam Colt experienced first-hand and is described in his original patent. This model pepperbox actually sold better than the Patterson Colts and would eventually be known as "the gun that won the East". This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique gun is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm. No sales to New York, New Jersey, California, and Hawaii. This is an antique, non FFL firearm. Overall length is 7 in, NSN. Please see photo for details.
