All Star Comics #8 (DC, 1942) CGC VG 4.0 Slightly brittle pages. The most famous female superhero ever, Wonder Woman, made her first appearance in this issue, despite not appearing on the cover! The prevailing theory is that the Amazon was originally supposed to debut in Sensation Comics #1 and was a last-minute addition here to encourage readers of this established title to seek out the new series. The first part of Wonder Woman's origin is told in this story, which was written by William Moulton Marston (under the pen name Charles Moulton) and drawn by H. G. Peter. We don't mean to give short shrift to the Justice Society -- their story has Dr. Mid-Nite and Starman being inducted into the group. Even the Hop Harrigan text feature is worth mentioning, since Superman and Batman both participate in the same story, a rarity in those days. Overstreet 2006 VG 4.0 value = $5,834. CGC census 4/06: 4 in 4.0, 18 higher.
