All-Star Comics #38 (DC, 1947) CGC VF/NM 9.0 Off-white to white pages. This truly enticing cover depicts the Justice Society of America being menaced by apparitions of various villains (Atilla the Hun, Gengis Kahn, Poncho Villa and others). Notice the caveman with the spike-laden club, the gun-wielding pirate (Jean Lafitte), buxom brunette (Cleopatra) and most terrifying of all, the chubby ne'er-do-well (Nero) threatening our beloved heroes with a most heinous and hideous-looking implement of destruction that can only be a violin. Surely our costumed wonders reeled in terror when the villain threatened to play his instrument of doom! The lucky bidder who wins this lot will be able to discover just how frightening that violin really is. This issue also features early work by the legendary and magnificent Alex Toth, and is the legendary JSA death issue. And lastly, the Black Canary series begins in this issue. This spectacular issue is slightly mis-cut and features incredible colors. Overstreet 2002 NM 9.4 value = $2,000. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
