All-American Comics #19 (DC, 1940) CGC GD/VG 3.0 Off-white pages. This book is ranked among the 50 most valuable Golden Age comics by Overstreet -- not only does it have only the fourth appearance of Green Lantern, it has the origin and first appearance of the original Atom! If you're not familiar with Al Pratt, the Golden Age Atom, you should be -- though he didn't have super powers, hard work turned this onetime 98-pound weakling into a superhero and future Justice Society member. This first Atom story was drawn by one Ben Flinton, who had a very brief comic book career. Some bigger-name artists await in Sheldon Moldoff (who drew the cover), Martin Nodell (who drew his creation Green Lantern) and Sheldon Mayer, who chipped in with another installment of his semi-autobiographical Scribbly feature. If 3.0 doesn't sound like much at first glance, note that this is only the fifth unrestored copy of this key issue that CGC has certified to date, and none of those have been graded higher than 6.0. Overstreet 2004 GD 2.0 value = $1,375; VG 4.0 value = $2,750. CGC census 12/04: 1 in 3.0, 4 higher.
