Sheldon Moldoff's most famous cover, among his many memorables, introduces the Green Lantern to the world in 1940, and the character has survived several incarnations to this day. Overstreet lists this as a "rare" book; Gerber in his The Photo-Journal Guide to Comic Books calls it "scarce." Let's not split hairs; it doesn't show up every day in any condition. The highest grade CGC has assigned to date for an unrestored copy of this issue is just FN- 5.5. CGC notes, "2 pieces of tape on cover." Despite the modest grade, the cover colors are really quite nice. Overstreet 2003 VG 4.0 value = $17,420. <B>Estimate: $17,000-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment.
