SPECIMEN ND, Vignette of polar bear, VF some wrinkles. Specimens from this railway are very hard to find.   Chartered in 1899, the original mandate was to connect the main CPR line to James Bay. Financial difficulties, work stoppages and other technical issues made this impossible to complete. The terminus was set at Hearst, ON some 476 km from Sault Ste. Marie. Completed in 1914, its purpose was to transport lumber and iron ore to the city. This railway became the first in Canada to use diesel (1952) and became famous for its Agawa Canyon tours. The company diversified into shipping, real estate, forestry and mining. Name changed in 1990 to Algoma Central Corp and the rail division was sold to Wisconsin Central RR in 1995. Nice piece of Northern Ontario history!
