Photographer and modern art promoter (1864-1946), husband of Georgia O’Keefe, who was instrumental over his fifty-year career in making photography an accepted art form. Uncommon ALS signed “Steiglitz,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 6.5, August 24, 1915. Steiglitz writes from Lake George to Horace Tranbel. In part: “Possibly the most lovable Lake on Earth greets you—It is more than human if one knows it as I do…through childhood until now. It sends you…to help along another lovable very human thing—The Conservator. It understands its needs.” In fine condition, with partial separation along hinge, and a uniform shade of toning. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Steiglitz’s hand. A boldly penned letter showing Steiglitz’s life-long love of Lake George.
