Alfred Smith TLS to FDR
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Former New York Governor Al Smith typed letter signed to current New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt, dated 21 June 1930 from Albany, New York. Here, Smith declines a Water Power Commission political appointment on grounds that he is too busy, but that he supports the Commission (even though he later opposed FDR's New Deal): ''…I regard the creation of this Commission…to be one of the outstanding achievements of your administration…'' Letter, measuring 7.5'' x 10'', is on 2pp. and has minor toning, else near fine with bold signature.
