Alfred Nobel Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 5.25” x 8.25”, in German, Ischl, Austria, June 21, 1883. Alfred Nobel (1833-1896) was a Swedish chemist, engineer, inventor, and founder of the Nobel prizes. Ironically, the original funding of the prizes, including the Nobel Peace Prize, came from his profits from the manufacture of explosives, including dynamite, which he invented in 1867. In this letter to the company Mahler and Eschenbacher in Vienna, Nobel writes in part: “Unfortunately, I do not know a single transportation company in Paris, especially one which I can recommend for such a purpose. My sphere of influence in France lies completely outside that of the commercial, otherwise it would have been easy to be of service to you. It appears to me that either the French Dynamite Company or Mr. Haffer could recommend a suitable personality. Should that not be the case, after my return to Paris I will pursue the matter.” The letter has been matted with a description and an 8.25” x 10” etching of Nobel. The letter would be in very good condition, but the ink has faded considerably due to previous exposure to sunlight.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
