<B> Alfred Lord Tennyson Autograph Letter Signed </B></I> "<I>Tennyson.</B></I>" One page, 8vo, Farringford Freshwater I.W. (Isle of Wight), February 21, 1876. The recipient of this letter is Lord Sheffield, it reads, "<I>...Could you give me any idea when Maude's last legacy to Harold will come to me? I do not want to trouble you about it, but should like with this legacy to find some sort of prize in his memory. I am sure that Maude would have wished this...</B></I>" Tennyson was one of the most popular English poets of his time. Most of his verse is based on classical or mythological themes. This particular letter refers to a work he wrote called <I> Harold </B></I> which was a tribute to King Harold II of England, he was killed at the battle of Hastings. A vintage engraving is also included in the lot.<r The letter is in very fine condition, usual folds are present; signature is bold and dark. From the Henry E. Luhrs Collection.
