Title is Along the Platte River. 9" by 13". 11 3/4" by 15 3/4" framed. One crack in the top center of the board, board is missing a corner in the bottom left. Alexis Comparet (1856 - 1906) was active/lived in Colorado, California, Indiana. Alexis Comparet is known for Landscape, mystic views, portrait. Known as a painter of tonalist landscapes, Alexis Comparet was born in South Bend, Indiana, and traveled widely. He studied with Benjamin Constant in Paris in 1874 and with early Colorado painter Harvey Young. In 1879, he was in New Mexico for a brief time and then returned to his home state of Colorado to teach at the Colorado Academy of Design, which was short lived. One of his collectors was Sarah Bernhardt who introduced him to her troupe when she was performing in Denver. In 1906, he moved to San Diego, California and later changed his name to Compera. He died at Coronado Beach. His work can be found at the Colorado State Museum.
