Provenance: The Estate of Dr.Naomi Jackson Groves, Ottawa
For several months during the year 1909 Jackson and a fellow artist spent several months living with a French farming family named Goix, near Paris on the Canal du Loing. Jackson comments on the area where this painting was completed, "There was much to paint there; the canal, bordered with Picardy poplars, old farms and the gently rolling country...all of it close enough at hand". Clearly evident in this painting is the impressionist technique that Jackson was exposed to during his two year training and stay in France.
