Marine Corps General in World War II (1887–1973) who planned and led the first amphibious landing against the Japanese on Guadalcanal in 1942. For his actions during the Solomon Islands campaign, he received the Medal of Honor. Uncommon vintage matte-finish 8 x 10 photo, signed in blue ink, “A. A. Vandergrift, General USMC Ret.” Some scattered light creases and surface marks, a couple brushes to signature, and some scattered light silvering, otherwise fine condition.
