Pendleton</B></I>”, one page, 7” x 9.25”, Headquarters, 2nd Corps, April 25, 1864, to General Jubal Early. It reads: “<I>The Lieut. General commanding directs me to say, that, your remarks upon the enclosed communication of Maj. Brown and G. are considered improper. They are therefore returned for withdrawal. Your attention is now called to the enclosed paper, marked A, showing the decision of the War Dept. and the comdg. General as to the method of transmission of orders in the Staff Departments. The instructions given by Maj. Brown to Maj. Hale are in accordance with their decision.</B></I>” Stains, smoothed folds. Very good condition.<BR><B>Jubal Early Autograph Letter Signed to Sandie Pendleton,</B></I> “<I>JA Early</B></I>”, one page, 7.5” x 10”, Jamesville Ford, April 26, 1864, to Sandie Pendleton. It reads in part as follows:“<I>I desire to know what is the extent of the limits of my confinement. When you informed me that I was placed under arrest, the condition was that I would confine myself to the limits of my camp. I wish to know if this means the camp of my quarters or of my division…</B></I>”. A verso endorsement signed “<I>A. S. Pendleton</B></I>” reads, “<I>The limits of Maj Gen J A Early's arrest are extended to embrace all points within the limits of this army.</B></I>”. Backed with clear linen, old repairs with light stains.<BR><B>Jubal Early Autograph Letter Signed, Regarding His Arrest,</B></I> “<I>J A Early</B></I>”, one page, 7.25” x 10”, Jamesville Ford, April 28, 1864, to Sandie Pendleton. It reads: “<I>I received last night on my return the paper containing General Lee's remarks in regard to the subject of my arrest. Am I to understand that I am released from arrest and resume my command without any further delay?</B></I>” Endorsed by Pendleton on verso as follows: “<I>Having been released from arrest by command of Genl. Lee Maj Gen. Early will resume his sword & command. By orders of Lt Gen Ewell A.S Pendleton A,A,G.</B></I>”.
