Union general and Medal of Honor recipient (1835–1911). During the Antietam campaign, Webb was chief of staff of General Fitz John Porter's 5th Corps. Just prior to the battle of Gettysburg, he was promoted to brigadier general, and took command of the 2nd Brigade, Gibbon's Division, of Hancock's 2nd Corps. Partly-printed vellum DS, signed “Alex. S. Webb,” one page, 18.5 x 15.25, January 27, 1899. Certificate for the "Military Order of Foreign Wars of the United States" awarded to Major William Curtis Furbush for "the services rendered in the War with Spain, 1898, by himself, as Major 9th U.S. Cavalry, while commanding his Regiment in Santiago Campaign." Signed at the conclusion by Alexander S. Webb, and countersigned by five others. The yellow, blue, and red ribbon affixed to the lower left is intact. Attractively double-matted and framed to an overall size of 24.5 x 21.5. In fine condition.
