Extraordinary coat designed by Alexander McQueen printed with the 'Blind Colony' design from his 'Dante' collection, Autumn/Winter 1996. Sewn in the back is a gold-on-black "Alexander McQueen, Made in Italy" label, with size tag ("42") and composition tag ("100% Cotton") on an inner seam. The jacket features a high collar with diagonal darts to padded shoulders, a concealed seven-button closure on the front, diagonally vented hip pockets, and four buttons to each cuff. The interior is lined in black silk. In fine condition, with some separation/spreading to seams at upper back.

This coat is depicted in Alexander McQueen: Fashion Visionary by Judith Watt. It was given as a gift by McQueen to his close friend and muse Alice Smith to wear while accompanying him to a private viewing at the Saatchi Gallery. Smith believes it is the only coat of this design in existence.

McQueen's 'Dante' collection was named for the 14th-century Italian poet Dante Alighieri, whose Divine Comedy portrays an allegorical vision of the afterlife; the show, in the words of McQueen, was about 'war and peace through the years.' His bold use of this photograph depicting a 19th-century Native American blind beggar colony, printed on a fine fabric, embodies the poignant contrast he aimed to capture in the collection.
