Oil on paper in the manner of Alexander Archipenko, "The Lovers", circa 1945, private collection, unframed dimensions are approximately 11 1/4 x 15 3/8. in the manner of Alexander Archipenko, (born May 30, 1887, Kiev, Ukraine [then Russian Empire]—died February 25, 1964, New York, New York, U.S.) Ukrainian-American artist best known for his original, Cubist-inspired sculptural style. studying in Kiev, in 1908 Archipenko briefly attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, but he quickly abandoned formal studies to become part of more radical circles, especially the Cubist movement. He began to explore the interplay between interlocking voids and solids and between convex and concave surfaces, forming a sculptural equivalent to Cubist paintings’ overlapping planes and, in the process, revolutionizing modern sculpture.

Absentee and online bids are accepted. All major credit cards are accepted. Bank wires and cashier’s checks are accepted. For credit card payments, buyer is required to sign Payment Authorization Form that will be provided via email. Merchandise will not be released until payment is cleared, and Authorization form has been completed and returned. All sales exceeding $5000 must be paid by bank wire. Payment is expected within 1-2 business days concluding auction. Any item that has not been paid for is forfeited by the buyer and the item may be put back on the auction block for sale. Any buyer that does not make payment will automatically be blocked from future Auction House auctions and will be filed with a collection agency and the credit bureau.
