Illustrator Alex Ross was fresh from his blockbuster collaboration with writer Kurt Busiek on the genre-refreshing Marvels mini-series from Marvel Comics and his work on Kingdom Come is nothing short of earth-shattering. This was one of three additional pages which were added to the completed graphic novel to add a scene that had to be cut due to the page count requirements of the original publication. This 12" x 18" watercolor illustration on 13.5" x 20" illustration board is gorgeous, with blazing reds and an almost monochrome approach to the underground citadel where Superman speaks with Orion about building the Gulag. This incredible work of art blurs the borders between commercial and fine art and Ross' talent shines through like finely-focused laser beam. Includes a vellum overlay with the original word balloons.
