Nice pairing of signatures: a ballpoint signature, “Albert Woolson,” on the reverse of an off-white 5.5 x 3.25 postcard bearing an affixed image of him; and a ballpoint signature, “General John Salling, age 109 May 16 1955, Born May 15 1846,” on the reverse of an off-white 3.25 x 5.5 postcard. In overall fine condition, with some soiling and stray postmark ink. Woolson (1847–1956) was the last surviving member of the Union Army and the last surviving Civil War veteran on either side whose status is undisputed. Salling (1856–1959) claimed to have been born ten years earlier and was considered the next-to-the last Confederate veteran until his claims were debunked years later.
